Just Imagine…
That the biggest, most powerful...the ONLY, Producer in the Universe came to you and said, “I am mounting my biggest production and You are in it.
There will be no auditions. I already know what you can do and I like your work.
There will be no bit parts or cameos in this play. Every role is a leading role, every part a supportive part, every appearance a special appearance. So yes in this play, you are the star! And sweetheart I am behind you one hundred percent!
There are a few things that you should remember, and these are not negotiable, so don’t send your agent around to me; I deal only with principals.
There will be no rehearsals. We only get to do this thing once and it’s a wrap.
There is no script – the play is not written yet.
I will not be appointing a director; you will direct yourself. And you’ll know all you need to know in order to do this.
Don’t worry about what to say or where to stand. If you need to know something, just be still and listen. I am always there.
My casting, as always, is pure genius. You may choose the character you wish to be in this production and you create the character as we go along. So, I would suggest that you give some thought as to where you would like your character to wind up when you take your curtain call.
If your character is not performing as you wish you may rewrite the role any way you wish, so long as your character does not weaken the story line or the other characters in our play.
I urge you to concentrate, not upon ACTING LIKE, but upon BEING the character you choose. Maintain the integrity of your character. Speak clearly. Think first. And don’t keep complaining about the set and bumping into furniture; you’ll only hurt yourself again…or somebody else.
Remember, I designed the set and it works perfectly!
You’ll find the other cast members to be every bit as good as you find yourself to be. That’s the way I work.
There will be no reviews or critiques from me. You know me; I like everything I see. If you want a review of your performance write it yourself. But for My sake, don’t let someone else write it!
During our run, You may present yourself with every award, every recognition, you think you deserve. There are plenty…help yourself! I do not do trophies.
You will also decide what your compensation will be for this role. Just let me know.
Oh – yes – I know you’re wondering – there are no understudies…no time off. No one else can ever play the part you create but you, So be sure to be comfortable with your character. Believe in it. Keep it focused.
We don’t know how long this play will run, but we do know that it will be the longest run you’ll ever have on this stage – so enjoy it! Make the most of it! This is NOT a Dress Rehearsal!
Now you won’t like this but I have to tell you: there is no stage manager. So if you make a mess of things, You will have to clean it up yourself. Don’t blame me – or anyone else. Just clean it up. The thing that got you into the mess is the thing that will get you out of it.
By the way, The title of my play? I call it Like – YOUR Life.
And the curtain, in case you haven’t noticed, has already gone up. YOURE ON! In fact, I’ve been tossing cues at you for years now.
The only prop get to use is your opening night gift. Don’t you remember? The one I gave you when we first opened, the moment you were born. Your ability to think! And to choose what you think. Use it! It works if you do!
So get out there and break a leg kiddo.
And remember, I LOVE YOU.
